Follow your life timelines

life-at-your-own-pace-1

We live in a world where we are groomed with certain expectations – timelines. It goes this way —– after graduation at 23, get a job, get your own apartment, get engaged, get married at 25, start your own family (get pregnant for ladies). That seems to be the natural trend of life. Hello!!!! somebody, life is not a linear equation.

If yours is different from the linear expression above, questions start coming. You start hearing things like what is happening, why don’t you want to settle down, your mates are married with kids, do you want their children to start calling you Auntie or uncle. What is the problem, are you being choosy? Then you hear stories like; if you have not achieve this or that at certain age, you are lagging behind, you are wasting your life.

The comparison trap enforced by societal pressure and social media, have caused many to think they are worthless, lagging behind or their lifes isn’t making any meaning, these also have caused many to fall into various vile like depression, prostitution, occultism, robbery and ultimately committing suicide.

Please don’t get me wrong, am not saying you should not try to do all these at an early age, but if for some reasons, things are not going that way, as much as possible avoid the comparison and pressure trap, and don’t let anybody push or rush you unnecessarily, simply because you are not meeting up  their expectations for your life. Our life timetables are different, understand and stick to yours.

Some preachers will even set timelines for your life as if they are God, am a christian and I can’t seem to find anywhere in the bible where timelines are set for our life, what the Bible said in Eccl 3 is that there is time for everything and the bible also said he makes all things beautiful in his time, but did not say everybody’s time is the same, so excuse me, find out your time and run with it. I read an article on the Thought catalog blog site, this is what the writer said

But your lifetime is infinitely unique to an infinity of other lifetimes, there is no way your journey will be the same with the others. Because like a myriad of other paths, yours is endowed with its own exclusivity, rocks, potholes and pebbles that are central to its individuality. —-Hudson Biko, Jan 2017

We are so used to living other people’s lifes and dreams that we forget what are own dreams are.

Remember: In the end people will judge and criticize you, so don’t live your life trying to impress others, live your life impressing yourself.
