Be Bold for Change II: Awaking the giant in you

Fear is one of the greatest weapon the devil is using against many of us. The fear of unknown, failure, rejection, disappointment and so on. In the book battle field of the mind by Joyce Meyers she talked about conquering the greatest enemy which is yourself. Once you can conquer that inner demon saying you cannot do it or make it, then you break free into your liberty and the sky is just the beginning.

Fear cripples and kill dreams, the monkey sitting on our shoulders will always whisper, aha so you want to try something new, why do you want to do it, many have tried it and have failed. Have you forgotten that the last time you ventured into something this big you failed? Why are you trying to do this again? People will not accept what you want to do, it has never been done before and many more negative thoughts. It’s okay for the devil to bring such thoughts after-all that is what he is known for; the choice is now yours whether to listen and meditate on it or to put on your armor of faith and shut him up. James 4:7 says submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee.

So, the question now is how do we wake the giant in us and kill the fear of failure? I want to share my own testimony with you.

I have this urge of starting a site that will motivate people to try what they have in mind and renew the hope of the faint hearted, but for a long time the fear of how do I start held me down. The monkey in his usual habit came, how do you want to do it, you cannot make it, people will not be interested in what you have to say, there are lots of motivational speakers and sites out there. This went on for 2 years and I was stuck but the burden to start the site was mounting. So I shared with a mentor my dream and what my challenges are; here is what she told me in simple language (by the way, I will be sharing on the importance of having mentors with you after this series).

  • Start small, don’t look for perfections at the beginning, it will improve over time.
  • Don’t be afraid to make mistake, mistakes are part of the learning process
  • Take risks, risks are healthy for growth and development, it is risky not to take risk.

With these words in mind, I started by downloading and reading on starting a blog site, and wala I got the site up without using any expert help. You will notice, that it’s still rough and rusty, but I felt fulfilled doing what I have always wanted to do. Since I started posting, I have not had visitors but it’s OK after all Rome was not built in a day, gradually things will take shape and I will continue to improve on my postings. My motivation now is I have conquered the fear of you cannot do it and am more confident in myself now.

I will be concluding the series with Managing Challenges. Send in your comments and thoughts. Never forget this, failure, mistakes and risk are some of the vital ingredients for success.

Remember this; You cannot change the world until you conquer yourself
