There has been so much noise about the country being in recession, people loosing their jobs, feeding has become really difficult, companies are downsizing, businesses are folding up and crime rate has skyrocketed. Exchange rate is on the high side and monetary policies are not so favorable for small businesses, power supply has gone from bad to worse, high fuel price and lots more. The question on the mind on of everyone is when will the situation improve, power, exchange rates, food commodities and other basic things.
Truth be told if the situation does not improve for a while how do we survive and what can we do to help ourselves. Things may not improve in the next 2 to 3 years, mind you this is not a prophecy of doom or negative pronouncement, but let’s face reality here, things will get better but not in the short term. The question now is what do we do and what are the opportunities around that we can leverage.
First let’s look inwards and identify what we have that can help before looking for help outside and cry about the falling price of oil in the international market.
Looking inwards what do we have;
1. Food: Are we producing enough for our consumption, if yes, can we export, if no this might be a good time for us to go back to the farm. It was discovered that we import maize, when we can easily produce it.
2. Exportation: Growing up we heard of the groundnut pyramid in Kano,cocoa farmers in the west and the palm oil producers from the east what happened, how can we revive all these and bring back our lost glory.
There is still so much to share, however i will like to here you own opinion, please share on this site how you think one can survive in times of recession.
Remember this: the best of you comes out during difficult situations.
